  • Why Pilates

    Pilates is suitable exercise discipline for everyone at any stage of physical fitness; from beginners to athlets and dancers and including pregnant women, seniors and people who at various stages of physical rehabilitation. Rather than concentrating upon specific areas, Pilates treats the body as a whole, building up muscle without adding bulk, improving joint mobility and flexibility, and boosting energy levels. By using spring resistance, Pilates challenges your muscles to work in two ways releasing and contracting. You’ll stretch longer and deeper and create stable joints that are more balanced and resistant to injury. Pilates is a full body workout. Not only will you feel and look better, you’ll perform your daily activities with greater ease AND get an athletic performance edge.

  • Who was Pilates

    The Pilates Method was developed by Joseph H. Pilates over a lifetime of studying the human body and movement. He originally called his method Contrology, which became commonly known among his clients and students as Pilates. Pilates outlines his philosophies, principals and workout method in his book ‘Pilates’ Return to Life Through Contrology’ published in 1945. After his passing his wife Clara and Romana Kryzanowska continued to train clients in his original method at his studio in New York City. Into the twentieth first century Romana continued to train students in his original method.

  • Why Classical

    Joseph Pilates developed a system of exercises done on special equipment of his own design at first called “contrology.” Its focus is on a strong core so you have a strong center from which to move. Instead of working major muscle groups in isolation, Classical Pilates works the whole body making each movement a whole body effort.

    Tribeca pilates is classically equipped based studio dedicated to teaching classical pilates the way Joseph Pilates intended it to be. Founder Ava kim, a former professional dancer and choreographer has studied and was certified authentic pilates method with both students of Jeseph Pilates and Romana. A workout based on the proper alignment of the body and precise execution of the exercise.
